Materials
We offer a wide range of kayaks, made with three diffrent ways of production.
HTP (Polyethylene) boats are made in a blowmolding process.
PriLite (ABS) boats are thermoformed.
GRP (Fiberglass) and CA (Carbon-Aramid) boats are hand laminated resp. made with vakuum-infusion out of fiberglass, carbon-aramid or full carbon fabric.
This table show the characteristics of each type:
| Name | Material | How the hull is made | Characteristics | Advantages | Made in |
| HTP | Polyethylene | Blowmolding process | The molecule chains of HTP are approximately 10 times longer than those of rotated PE. This makes PRIJON HTP boat hulls stiffer, lighter and less susceptible to abrasion. HTP-kayaks have clear advantages regarding form stability, abrasion and boat weight, compared to kayaks made of rotated PE. HTP is very environmentally friendly. When it is recycled, there are no poisonous gases or residues; it is ground water neutral and free of heavy metals. Our blowmolded kayak are comparably light, compared to rotomolded kayaks. HTP-boat shells are very sturdy and already possess a permanent protection against UV-rays. | + Extremely high mechanical durability + Not sensitive to ground impact + Stiff and form-stable during paddle tours in the Arctic and the Tropics | Germany |
| PriLite | ABS (Acrylnitrile- Butadiene- styrene) | Thermoforming | For PriLite boats, the ABS-combination plates, sealed with UV-resistant perspex, are pulled into the hot moulds, which have a temperature of approximately 80 degrees, in a computerized process, using heat and vacuum. The upper and lower parts of the boat are inseparably joined together by a double-sided U-profle. This profile additionally strengthens the sides of the kayak against impact. | + 20% Lighter than HTP + More sturdy than GRP/Carbon Aramide + Optical highlight because of the metallic surface | Germany |
| GRP | Fiberglass reinforced plastic | Laminated by hand | The deck and hull of this construction are wet laminated by hand with polyester resin. GRP kayaks are a great choice for those who are upgrading from a HTP sea kayak, or want to dive right into the sport in a composite model and enjoy all the advantages of a stiffer hull at a lower weight. | + Minimum 5kg lighter than HTP & PriLite + Elegant optic + Stiff boat hull + Easy handling outside of the water due to the low weight | Europe |
| CA | Carbon-Aramide | Laminated & vacuum infusion | The hull of this construction is laid up by hand and then vacuum bagged, before being infused with a measured amount of vinylester resin. The deck is laid up by hand and wet laminated with vinylester resin. Carbon-Aramide models offer the optimal balance of very low weight and durability. | + Up to 10kg lighter than HTP & PriLite + Elegant optic + Extremely stiff boat hull + Easy handling outside of the water due to the low weight | Europe |
