Made in Germany

Working where others are spending a paddling holiday

At Prijon, we have always placed great importance on our products being “Made in Germany”. In times of globalization, this seal of quality is more valuable than ever. It not only represents the quality of a product, but also ensures regional work places and protects the environment. For kayaks produced in Germany, no heavy-fuel consuming container ships are required.

Our principle of staying regional, without massively increasing our carbon footprint, has also been applied when making this catalogue. Almost all photos were taken within a radius of 100 kilometres around our headquarters in Rosenheim within just four days.

We are lucky to have such perfect testing conditions on our doorstep.

For the production of our world-famous HTP-kayaks, we're using a special PE, called HTP. This material can only be used in blow-moulding and not in roto-moulding, as used by other producers of kayaks. The molecule chains of HTP are approximately 10 times longer than those of rotated PE. This makes the boat hulls stiffer, lighter and less susceptible to abrasion. HTP-kayaks have clear advantages regarding form stability, abrasion and boat weight, compared to kayaks made of rotated PE. HTP is very environmentally friendly. When it is recycled, there are no poisonous gases or residues; it is ground water neutral and free of heavy metals. Our blowmolded kayak are comparably light, compared to rotomolded kayaks, but have a higher weight, e.g. compared to our PriLite kayaks (approx. 20% more).
Care: HTP-boat shells are very sturdy and already possess a permanent protection against UV-rays. Therefore they need no treatment with varnishes, wax or other care materials.
+ Extremely high mechanical durability
+ Not sensitive to ground impact
+ Stiff and form-stable during paddle tours in the Arctic and the Tropics

For PriLite boats, the ABS-combination plates, sealed with UV-resistant perspex, are pulled into the hot moulds, which have a temperature of approximately 80 degrees, in a computerized process, using heat and vacuum. The upper and lower parts of the boat are inseparably joined together by a double-sided U-profile. This profile additionally strengthens the sides of the kayak against impact. The mounting of deck mountings and interior fittings are thoroughly done by hand, as on all Prijon boats. Advantages: PriLite boats are approx. 20% lighter than comparable kayaks made of HTP. At the same time there is a clear advantage regarding stability compared to GFK or Carbon/Aramide.
Repairs/Care: Superficial scratches can be polished off with a special paste, available in specialized shops. Larger repairs are made with Epoxi. The inside of the boat should not be permanently exposed to sun (store upside down!).

+ Lighter than HTP
+ More sturdy than GRP/Carbon Aramide
+ Optical highlight because of the metallic surface
-  More susceptible to mechanical stress than HTP

Laminated kayaks are made by hand in the traditional way. They are more sensitive to contact with the ground compared to boats made of HTP or PriLite, and should therefore be predominantly used in free-flowing waters. PRIJON is offering the two material varieties of GPR and Carbon/Aramide.

These boats mainly consist of carbon and Aramide fibres, combining the excellent qualities of carbon, which is very hard and gives the boat its stiffness with the qualities of Aramide, which is very shock-proof and provides the necessary impact resistance of the kayak. The biggest advantage of this construction method is clearly the incredibly low weight (up to 10kg lighter than HTP-boats).

+ The lightest boat, 25% less weight than a HTP-kayak
+ Elegant shape
+ Very stiff boat hull
-  More susceptible to mechanical wear and tear than HTP and PriLite

The fibre mats of our GRP-kayaks mainly consist of glass fibres, which are very stiff, but still reasonably priced. Kayaks made of GRP are comparable to the PriLite boats regarding their weight.
+ 20% reduction of weight compared to a comparable HTP-kayak
+ Elegant shape
+ Simple handling outside the water
-  More susceptible to mechanical wear and tear than HTP and PriLite

HTP-kayaks from PRIJON are made according to latest standards in our factory in Rosenheim. More than 50 years of experience in developing and manufacturing of products for the kayak sport are incorporated in your kayak. Permanent quality checks during the production guarantee a constant quality. More than 80% of our components mounted in our kayaks are made by ourselves or by suppliers located in a radius of max 100k around Rosenheim. This ensures important jobs in our region for our workers as well as the workers of our suppliers and guarantees high quality and short transport ways. The value chain stays in the country. An experienced team of paddlers, lead by slalom world champion Toni Prijon, is permanently testing new models and making them ready for production. A lot of ideas from customers - paddlers like you - are incorporated. Finally all our models are produced here in Rosenheim, using our world wide unique material HTP.

+ Blowmolded HTP is strikingly more break-proof than other boat-materials
+ The molecule chains are 10x longer (compared to e.g. rotated PE), therefore our material cannot crack
+ It contains a high percentage of recyclable materials
+ Life-long redemption guarantee and 5 years guarantee on the hull
Our accessories for paddlers are designed together with our partners, to get the best possible results and fulfill the highest needs regarding quality and function. At PRIJON we develop and make most accessories where possible. Where we need to acquire accessories elsewhere we source them from either local companies or neighbouring countries for several reasons, including reduced transport costs and impact, greater control over quality assurance and local employment creation. There a continuous quality management and best possible service level is guaranteed for both kayaks and accessories.
